About Us

Welcome to The Bed Centre. We are a family-run business and proud to be in its second generation of helping customers sleep more comfortably as it’s now in its 38th year of trading.

Our History

The Bed Centre began trading in 1985 when my parents Linda and Barrie Millar opened a small shop on Tamworth Road, Kettlebrook, selling beds and mattresses.

Growth

Since its opening, the business has grown well, despite the influx of big-name stores.  First, there was an extension to the original shop, then in 2013 and again in 2019, we move to a much larger premises. We can now be found next to Topps Tiles and The Range on Tame Valley Industrial Estate, Wilnecote.

While my parents ran the store in Tamworth, I ran a store in Stafford between 1990 and 2017. In 2017, my parents decided to take well-earned retirement and so I decided to take over the family business with my partner Gemma.  At this point, I decided to close the Stafford store to focus my efforts on the flagship Tamworth store.

The business has prospered through the years, due mainly to customer recommendations and building a solid customer base who return again and again. Not only have we previously won ‘Silentnight Retailer of the Year’. We have also become one of Silentnight’s major stockists – 1 of only 50 in the UK.

We have two young children and together we work in the store, along with three further employees.

I am very hands-on with the business, I work in the shop, unload deliveries and deliver items to customers, as well as the day-day behind-the-scenes running of the business.

Gemma runs our second business, Made2Measure Mattress which specialises in custom-size mattresses for things like motorhomes and boats.

Success

We pride ourselves on helping the customer choose the right bed for them and their requirements. We’re also starting to sell bedroom furniture which is something new for us.

I  hope our furniture range will take off. We get asked about it by people in the shop and so wanted to meet our customers’ needs. They can now buy a complete bedroom furniture package from us.
